Able Baker Fox [mp3]
Thanks for coming back to my site, or if this is the first time then thanks for coming at all! I used to write for a local music blog called CvilleMuse and when that hit bottom I decided to start this here site back up.
As I’m sure everyone with a pulse has noticed it is really fucking cold out. So, as a first post sort of thing I thought I’d let you in on some of the music that has been keeping me warm lately…
Able Baker Fox is a 4 piece band without a real home. With members stretched across four states (Michigan, Missouri, Illinois, and New York) they came together out of the ashes of Small Brown Bike and The Casket Lottery in 2006. After trading tracks back and forth between them for six months they met for some epic rehearsals and recorded their monster debut album ‘Voices’ in 2006. The recording is both angular and comforting - featuring unique vocal harmonies and the rhythmic stop/start choruses that bring anticipatory pauses to the driving intensity of the songs. If you’re familiar with Small Brown Bike you’ll recognize the singing and probably the same sort of approach to the music. However, this album is far sparcer and dare I say a bit darker than anything either of their previous bands did. There is screaming and whispering, and the messages of the songs are brought to the surface clearly and not muddled in metaphor.
